Powerful innings from Sikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli led India to a comfortable nine wicket victory over Srilanka in their first ODI at the Rangiri Dambulla on Sunday. Dhawan scored 132 runs in 90 balls while Kohli scored 82 runs of 70 deliveries both player forged a 197 run partnership for the second wicket the highest in Srilanka against Srilanka. It all went good for India in this match after a little bit of punishment initially their bowler bounced back in style to restrict for 216 and then Dhawan and Kohli applied themselves perfectly to chase down the total with 21.1 over remaining.
In order to chase a relatively low total , opener Rohit and Dhawan started the innings slow but Rohit failed to support the Dhawan for long as he was dismissed in the fifth over with barely 23 runs on the board. Incoming batsman and captain Kohli along with Dhawan the paced up the innings by thrashing the Srilanka bowlers. It was raining boundaries in the ground and stopped only after they reached the target .
Earlier Srilanka wasted a good start to allow Indian Spinners to bounce back in style ansd restrict the hosts to 216. Anjelo Methews some how managed to stick at the wicket but lak of support from the other end resulted in a low total for the hosts .
Lower order player Thisara Perera , lakshan Sandakan and Lasith malinga tried to make up for the midde order collapse but failded and thus after a perfact start the isalaers were restricted t 216. For India , left arm spinner Axar Patel scalped three wicket while Bumrah, Chahal and Jadhav took two wickets each.
